MEET THE COACHES

 

 

HEAD COACH: CHARVETTE BROWN Charvette is entering her 3rd season as Head Coach at Westfield. She is the former assistant varsity coach at Klein Forest High School. In her first season at Westfield she helped change the program around from a 1-31 record to 17-16. In three years nine seniors have went on to play volleyball on a scholarship. She has a strong volleyball background, with 16 years playing experience and 10 years of coaching. Charvette is very active in the volleyball community. She is co-club director at Texas Select Volleyball Club, serving the Woodlands/Spring area. Charvette is a 1996 graduate of the 3 time state winning, 39-0, 42-0, 40-0, Cypress Creek High School volleyball team. She played for two years at Southern University-Baton Rouge where she was the team captain for two seasons. She then finished her last two years at Texas Southern University. Some of her accomplishments include four time First -Team All-SWAC, Freshman of the year, three time team MVP, and two time conference tournament MVP. She was also ranked number eight in NCAA Division I ranking for kills per game and named the Southern University female athlete of the year. Charvette has a BA in Sociology with a minor in History. She is also a Impact Certified coach. Charvette is married to Germaine and has three daughters Mariah (2), Ariana (6), and Tiarra (12). Favorite Quote: "Champions aren't made in gyms. Muhammad Ali.   ASSISTANT COACH: JANAE STRICKLAND Janae is entering her 3rd season as assistant volleyball coach. Janea brings alot of energy and experience to the volleyball program. She is a class of 2000 graduate of Westfield High School and was a standout multi-sport athlete. She was a member of the volleyball and track team. Janae received a full track scholarship to University of Missouri. She graduated with a BS in Biology in 2005 and received a MA is secondary education in 2007. Janae also coaches track and teaches Chemistry. Favorite Quote:     ASSISTANT COACH: LAURA COMPEAN I am a native Houstonian.  I played softball since the age of 7 yrs old through high school, and I played volleyball at Eisenhower High School.  My volleyball and softball experiences instilled lifelong lessons that have made me the person that I am today.  I attended Stephen F. Austin State University and graduated with a BS, Majoring in Kinesiology with a minor in Spanish.  This is my 5th year coaching volleyball, and I have coached softball six years.  I have 3 Children, Gabriel -22, Mary-18, and Ariana - 9.  This is my third year at Westfield High School.  I have taught and coach from Lufkin,Tx to Galveston, Tx....Westfield feels right...I am a Mustang!!!!  I look forward to the 2010 season and having a part in molding the performance and character of my athletes.
