Game Notes: We won! Our first playoff game, facing a strong Heritage-Victoria team who we haven't been able to beat all year, the kids came out with a great effort to earn the win, 4-3 in overtime.
Ryan opened the scoring with a shorthanded goal at 1:37 of the first period, assists to Louis and Mark M, then Andrew put one in the net unassisted with just 12 seconds left in the first to put us up 2-0.
Heritage-Victoria scored twice in the second period to tie the game, but Louis scored a power play goal, assist to Ryan, with 18 seconds left in the period to regain the lead going into the third.
Heritage-Victoria scored the only goal of the third period, on the power play at 6:36 to tie the game again, so despite a lot of pressure and good chances for both teams, we went to overtime.
The kids continued to play hard all through overtime, with lots of chances for both teams and both goalies coming up with some big saves. With just 42 seconds left in the first overtime period, Ryan scored on a hard-working drive to the net, beating both Heritage-Victoria defencemen to the puck and getting a nice shot away; assist to Andrew, who made a heads-up pass to start the play.
All the boys shot the puck and stayed out of the penalty box, two areas we've had trouble with in the past - good work, everyone!
Taylor played well in the net, making the key stops when it counted to keep us in the game.
Brett played well in a brief relief period at the start of the third.
