Game Notes: 3-0! On Saturday, the team once again had the first game of the day under bright cool weather. They faced off against a strong Wizzards team that came into the game ready to challenge our team’s undefeated record. The opening period ended in a 0-0 tie as Richi, Ethan and Alec played great defense. Drew played goalie for the first time and made a couple of nice saves to preserve the tie. On offense, Josh, Matt M., Evan and Dan penetrated the opposing team’s defense but came away empty-handed. In the 2nd period, the offense came alive as Ethan scored his first goal of the game with a beautiful assist by Dan. The defense of Jake Hyman, Matt M. and Drew prevented any shots on goal as Jacob Gannon had an easy period as goalie.

In the 3rd period, Ethan erupted for his 2nd goal of the game as he took a corner pass from Jake Hyman. Drew and Matt M. also pressured the defense during this period. Josh, Jacob Gannon and Matt L. once again played tremendous defense by sending long kicks back to the offensive side. Evan in goal was given a chance to rest. During the 4th period, the teams played to a tie as neither team could find the goal. However, Alec in goal for the first time this season, made a nice save as the ball went off his hand out of bounds. His reaction was perfect and preserved the shutout as the team went into the 5th period up 2-0.

In the 5th period, Ethan completed his hat trick (3 goals) as Alec stole the ball from the opposing player and kicked it to a streaking Ethan to set up the final goal for the team. At this point, the coaches moved the hot shooting Ethan back to defense in order to allow the other players an opportunity to score. In period 6, Dan in goal made a few great saves to preserve the team’s second shutout.

MVP Offense: Ethan- After being shutout during game #2, Ethan erupted by scoring 3 goals and netting the team’s first hat trick this season. He attacked the opposing team’s defense with some great dribbling skills and passes to his teammates and exhibited nice sportsmanship as the coaches sat him out the last period to allow others an opportunity to score. Congrats to Ethan!

MVP Defense: Alec- After asking to play goalie for several games and at practice, Alec exhibited great skills in goalie during the critical 4th period as the team was only up 2-0. He listened to the coaches and used his hands to stop one shot and also played defense in the opening period and kept the ball from the goalie. Alec also netted his first assist of the season during the 5th period to set up Ethan’s 3rd goal of the game. Congrats to Alec!
