Cinco Ranch defeated Lamar 27-23 on Saturday, Nov. 13, at Tully Stadium to move on to the second round of the 2010 postseason.

Lamar senior quarterback Bram Kohlhausen (1037 yards, 14 touchdowns, 4 interception prior to game) was originally ruled out of the game for “bad conduct”, but came in during the fourth quarter.

Posted Nov 14/10 - Cinco Ranch outlasts Lamar 27-23
Cinco Ranch defeated a talented Lamar football on Saturday on pure perseverance.

The Cougars (10-1) won 27-24 at Tully Stadium in bi-district playoff action by outlasting the Lamar Redskins (9-2) in a battle of quality teams with high postseason expectations.

Cinco Ranch turned in its best defensive effort of the season against a playoff-caliber team when the Cougars held Lamar to 193 total yards. Cinco Ranch held Lamar to 54 rushing yards, average of two yards per carry.

Posted Nov 14/10 - Late QB heroics belong to Cougars

The drama was supplied by Lamar quarterback Bram Kohlhausen, a UH commit who broke his hand last week and stayed on the sideline most of Saturday against Cinco Ranch at Tully Stadium.

He finally entered on the Redskins' last two drives to try to rally them.

But the heroics belonged to far-less heralded QB Justin Sawyer, who fought off two interceptions and successfully led his team on a long scoring drive to reclaim the lead in the fourth.

Cinco Ranch then held on for a hard-fought 27-23 win in the Class 5A Division I Region III bi-district playoffs.

Posted Nov 7/10 - Tigers refuse to be tamed

KATY — As the third quarter ended and the Cinco Ranch and Katy players walked to the south end of Rhodes Stadium to start the fourth, the Katy fans could be heard chanting in unison “Leave no doubt!” The Tigers accomplished that mission well before the final quarter of play.

Nobody is likely to be saying that Cinco Ranch is struggling after Saturday’s performance against Taylor at Rhodes Stadium.

With the Cougars sputtering at times in four of their last five games, Cinco Ranch put all that in its rear-view mirrors with a stunning 66-7 win over Taylor, leaving the Cougars unbeaten at 8-0 and 5-0 in district. Taylor fell to 4-4 and 3-2.

Posted Oct 17/10 - James’ 3-touchdown effort helps Cinco Ranch stay unbeaten
Jamel James felt like he had to have a big night on Friday. Last week, he collided with another player in practice and was held out of the Memorial game for concussion-like symptoms.  But he had to show that the injury didn’t slow him down. And he showed he’s probably a step quicker than before.

Posted Oct 17/10 - Cinco Ranch to comeback win over Strake Jesuit
When Cinco Ranch marched down the field and scored on its first possession in a crisp 63-yard drive to take a 7-0 lead over Strake Jesuit, it looked like it was going to be an evening where the Cougars’ Homecoming overflow crowd could sit back and take it all in.

But the Crusaders, who entered Friday’s game with a 1-5 record, didn’t seem dazzled one bit with all the festivities going on around Rhodes Stadium and hung with Cinco Ranch throughout the first half. The Crusaders took a brief 16-13 lead following the second touchdown pass thrown by Strake Jesuit quarterback Graham Chapman to favorite wide receiver Clay Martin with 3:17 left before halftime.

Posted Oct 14/10 - Cinco Ranch stiff arms Memorial 35-28

During the summer, Cinco Ranch's Russell Cuellar referred to 2009 interception leader Zach Velliquette as his mentor.  Velliquette pulled down an astounding 10 interceptions during the Cougars' 15-game season last fall, often at pivotal moments. As a junior, Cuellar tried to emulate Velliquette's secondary wizardry by making four interceptions. Now he's a senior and setting the pace in the Cougar secondary.

Posted Oct 14/10 - Cougars stay cool in 35-28 win over Memorial
Over the last season and a half, Cinco Ranch has faced several close games, and have found ways to win them. You would think head coach Don Clayton would be used to them by now.  “I don’t thrive in these situations,” he said jokingly. “I really liked it when it was 35-14. I was real comfortable then.”

Posted Oct 14/10 - Last Stop Keeps Cougars Perfect

Memorial saw a fiery fourth-quarter comeback fall short in Saturday’s 35-28 loss to Cinco Ranch in District 19-5A play at Tully Stadium.  Trailing by three touchdowns with 9:48 left in the game, the Mustangs put together a couple of quick scoring drives to pull within seven points.

Cinco Ranch dominates Mayde Creek

Almost everyone saw playing time last Thursday for Cinco Ranch as the No. 5-ranked Cougars led from bell to bell in a 48-7 win over Mayde Creek at Rhodes Stadium.  It was the first district game for both teams and Cinco Ranch (4-0) made the most of its opportunities against the Rams by racking up 499 yards in total offense while utilizing four quarterbacks and six different running backs against over-matched Mayde Creek (1-3).

Posted Sep 20/10 - Obscurity to hero for QB Sawyer

Even though there are several talented players that make up the Cinco Ranch offense, you can’t just put anybody at quarterback and hope it can continue ticking.

It’s not just handing the ball off to K.C. Nlemchi over and over again. The Cougar quarterback has to have a good arm to get the ball to his receivers, quick feet to roll out and escape pressure, and a good head to know the difference.

That’s why Justin Sawyer’s performance against Clear Springs was so surprising. Despite playing in a hyped game against one of – if not the most talented defensive units in the state, and ran the offense without a hitch in a 38-35 win.

Posted Sep 17/10 - Cinco Ranch pounds out come-from-behind win over Clear Springs

Facing a defense with six players that have commitments to top college programs like LSU and Texas A&M, K.C. Nlemchi and Cinco Ranch was ready for the challenge that the Clear Springs defense presented to them.

The senior back helped the Cougars rally from a 14-6 halftime deficit to win 38-35 Saturday night at Rhodes Stadium. Nlemchi ran for 158 yards and four touchdowns without his starting quarterback and his fullback. Quarterback Kyle Meloy did not play in the game with a shoulder injury, and running back Jamel James played only the first half before leaving with a bruised leg.

Nlemchi and backup quarterback Justin Sawyer helped the Cougars to move the ball against a tough Charger defense that many felt were the best in the state, if not the nation.
