Posted Jul 9/13 - Health/Safety Guidelines

New Texas UIL Guidelines for practice effective August 1, 2013 for the schools operated under the Texas school system related to football concerning safety and health of players are being adopted and suggested to be used at the youth level to a degree concerning players safety.

During the regular season and post season , no player is allowed to participate in more than Ninety minutes of full contact practice per week.

Air- players should run unopposed without bags or any opposition.

Bags- activity is executed against a shield or pad to allow for soft contact surface, with or without the resistance of a teammate or coach standing behind the bag.

Wrap- drills run at full speed until contact, which is above the waist with the players remaining on their feet.

Thud- same as wrap but tempo is competitive with no pre- determined winner and the players are not tackling to the ground.

Temperature and relative humidity determine the practice schedules for players 75 plus is a danger level and caution need to be taken coaches need to know and understand both the temperature and humidity , the greater the humidity the more difficult it is for the body to cool itself. 100 F 10 percent relative humidity is a danger zone 30 percent is critical youth coaches must understand todays football is not the same game they knew it to be nor is it their fathers game when water breaks were not considered important to the players health.

These new rules being used at the high school level should be adopted at the youth level to keep young players healthly and safe and it gives them the opportunity to understand how things are conducted at the next level as they move into junior high.

The Benbrook Stars conduct our practices in this manner as we feel it give the players the best opportunity to learn the game and properly conduct themselves on the field of play at the highest level their ability allows.
