FIRST PERIOD

Express open the scoring at the 2:24 mark when Brett Stardom won the battle on the boards and blasted 

a shot past Riels net minder Connor Bell to take an early 1 – 0 lead.

Riels had to play defensive hockey in the first killing off three power play chances.

Finally on the power play, Brian Dies tapped in a goal at 18:39 of the period to tie it up, assists coming 

from Travis Ziprick and Brett Charette. That ended the period knotted at 1 – 1. Shots on goal were even 

9 – 9.

SECOND PERIOD

Only one goal was cored at 19:46 of the second period when Brian Michaels tipped in a shot from the 

point from Sean Christensen and assist from Glen Young. Riels lead was 2 – 1 after two periods. Shots 

were 16 – 9.

Riels had a good second period, skating hard, winning battles in the neutral zone and defensive zone. 

Goal tender for the Express, Jarrett Smith came up with some big saves to keep it close. Riels net minder, 

Connor Bell was solid holding his own throughout the game.

THIRD PERIOD

Riels opened the flood gates early at the 21 second mark when Glen Young pushed one past smith to 

make it 3 – 1 assists coming from Gorrie and Michiels.

Less than three minutes later, Michael Gorrie scored from Glen Young and Russell Trudeau at 5:07 which 

made it 4 – 1.

Then at 9:58 Jens Giesbrecht walked in from the side wall making a nice move inside and over powering a 

nice shot past Smith to make it 5 – 1. Assists came from Tyler Fehr and Brad Kutzak.

Railcats finished off the scoring of the night at 11:14 when Chad Pearch beat Riels goalie Connor Bell to 

make it a final 5 – 2. Riels outshot the express 15 – 4 total shots were 40 – 22 Riels.
