~~Officials hold Ground Breaking for New Gymnasium at Eleanor McMain
November 14, 2013

McMain’s Gymnasium Ground Breaking Ceremony was a great moment in history for our district and our students. Principal Bridgette B. Frick shared, ” It is a time whereby we are embarking upon a new era at the MCM.  We will have our own gymnasium that will be state of the art for our student athletes to practice and hold competitions.  Our gymnasium will allow us to become compliant with Title IX sports regulations and afford our students home court advantages, as well as generate revenue to build and support out athletic program.  We are truly excited about this addition to our school, which will complement the our upcoming renovations that will be done to the school.   The entire McMain Community is grateful to the Board for working toward a positive end to this project for our students. Go Mustangs!”
The existing Eleanor McMain Secondary High School, built in 1930 in the art deco style, is an historic site that is protected by the Secretary of Interiors, FEMA, and the State Historic Preservation Office. This project is LEED Silver and funded by FEMA for the Orleans Parish School Board.

The scope of work includes a new covered walkway connecting the existing building to a new 2 story gym addition that will have bleachers to seat 1,000, a concession stand, locker room facilities for boys and girls, and a space for a fitness center. The site work also includes two parking lots: The Nashville Street Parking Lot will be located in front of the new gym addition and in front of the existing auditorium entrance. The Joseph Street Parking lot will be located behind the existing school and the new gym addition and has one curb for 2-way traffic.
