Posted Dec 8/13 - Knights Hang on For a 2 -1 Victory

Knight’s net minder Bryan Tait held off the powered offence of the Riels to one goal for the victory.  Mr. Tait stopped a penalty shot, 2 or 4 pucks off the mask.  Riels put everything at him and he was brilliant.

FIRST PERIOD

Coltion Kalinski scored on a penalty shot at 14:05 when he made a couple of nice moves to beat Riels net minder Ryan Brown.  Riels outshot the Knights in the first period 12 -10.  Score ended up 1-0 Knights.

SECOND PERIOD

Knights Kyle Lee scored his 5th of the season at 2:04 with assists coming from Thomas Petrick and Nolan Crozier, which made it 2-0 Knights early in the second.  The Riels kept pressing to get their 1st goal but no way, goal tender Bryan Tait would not let that happen.  It was goaltender gala tonight.  Riels goalie Ryan Brown stopped a couple of breakaways to keep the Riels in striking distance.  The Riels finally scored midway through the second but only for the referee to wave it off-no goal saying the net was off its mourings.  Riels also hit a couple of posts.  Knights lead was 2-0 after two and outshot Riels 14-11.

THIRD PERIOD

Riels never quit, working the puck down low making plays, had a lot of chances to score but no luck around the net.  Then at 12:34 Brian Dies scored his 15th of the season on the power play from Russell Trudeau and Brett Charette.  That made it

2-1 Knights.  The Riels pulled their goalie Ryan Brown with 90 seconds left trying to get the equalizer to send it to overtime.  But the Knights playing tough in their own zone held off the Riels offence and hung on to win 201.  What a game, end-to-end action and great goaltending on both sides.  That ended the Riels winning streak of 5 games.  Riels outshot the Knights in the third 16-10 and overall 39-34 shots.

THREE STARS

First star Ryan Brown, second star Russell Trudeau and third star Brian Dies.
