Posted Dec 13/13 - Riels unload on the Hawks

FIRST PERIOD

Riels took advantage on their power play this afternoon scoring 4 times.

First goal came at the 18:50 mark when Stanislav Izvekov scored his first of the year on the power play with a blast from the point beating net minder Stuart Fleury with assists coming from Brian Dies and Brett Charette.  That ended the period 1-0 fro the Riels.  Riels outshot the Hawks 11-6.  The first period was very close checking and very fast.

 

SECOND PERIOD
Hawks tied the game at 2:18 when Mike Lorange scored his first of the season with a redirected tip in from a pass from Colby Ferbers.

Riels hard for checking line of Eastman, Prejet and Kutzak replied a minute later on a nice goal from Eastman with assists going to Prejet and Kutzak.  That hard work paid off that sparked the Riels.  The Hawks took a major penalty at 5:07 of the second frame.  The Riels power play went to work first, Sean Christensen tallied his 7th of the season with help coming from Brian Michiels and Glen Young at 6:06.  Then league leader Brett Charette scored his 15th of the season on a beautiful 3-way passing play from Travis Ziprick and Russell Trudeau at 7:41.  Seventeen seconds later Brian Dies scored his 16th of the season with assists coming from Charette and Michael Gorrie at 7:58.  Riels top line went to work again at 19:37 when Brett Charette scored his 16th with assists coming from Trudeau and Dies.

That made it five unanswered goals and put the Hawks away.  Riels out shot the Hawks 20-8 in the second and lead 6-1 after 2 periods.

 

THIRD PERIOD

Hawks came out in the 3rd trying to get things going, but the Riels shut them down.  Hawks pulled their goal tender Fleury out for the start of the third period, Logan Wasio came in for the entire third period.  Riels scored their seventh goal at 6:22 when Stanislav Izvekov got his second of the night on a nice passing play from line mates Jens Giesbrecht and Artur Raevskiy.  Hawks net minder Logan Wasio was tested 16 times and played strong keeping the Riels to only one good in the third period.  Hawks scored a weak goal at 11:30 when Zelenewich put one past Riels net minder Kyle Vandemosselaer on a dump in and a funny bounce.  Riels goalie Vandemosselaer played solid stopping 21 shots.
