Riels 6 vs Railer Express 2  Tues. January 21, 2014

FIRST PERIOD

Artur Raevskiy kept his hot streak alive early in the contest at 1:34 when he snapped a nice high shot that beat Express net minder Jerret Smith to take an early lead 1-0 with an assist going to Brett Charette.   Riels captain Michael Gorrie scored on a beautiful 3 way passing play.  It was Michiels gaining the zone deep cycling the puck to Young, then Young finding Gorrie in the slot, a one-timer snipe for his 24th of the season to make it 2-0 Riels at the 8:34 mark.

The Express on the power play at 11:21, Justin Pokrant scored his 6th of the season beating Riels goalie Ryan Brown with help coming from Greg Myall and Tango Yestrau.  That’s how the first period ended 2-1 Riels with Riels outshooting the Express 10-8.

 

SECOND PERIOD

Only one goal to be recorded in the second frame.  It came off the stick of Russell Trudeau, his 30th of the season at 17:02 with assists coming from Jens Giesbrecht and Brett Charette.  Riels outshot the Express 12-8 and had a 3-1 lead after two periods.  Riels killed off two power play chances for the Express.

 

THIRD PERIOD

It was all newcomer Matt Wilson in the thirds.  He scored his 1st goal as a Riel at 1:52 mark when he buried the puck up high past Express goalie Smith with assists coming from Chris Prejet and Sean Christensen.

Again, Matt Wilson blasted a puck high in the slot (top cheddar), his second of the evening at 9:53 with assists coming from Mike Riffel and Artur Raevskiy.  That made it 5-1 Riels.

The Express got one back late at 16:17 when Brody Anthony beat Riels goalie Ryan Brown with assists coming from Isaac Bellan and Stephane Catellier.  In the third period at 17:16, Artur Raevskiy scored a nice goal his 8th of the season with assists coming from Matt Wilson and Chris Prejet.  That’s how it all went down 6-2 Riels.  Riels outshot the Express in the third 14-6 and 35-22 overall.
