Posted Aug 1/14 - Finishing 2013-2014, and Looking to the Future

The 2013-2014 season was a rollercoaster ride for the Forrest Rockets.  The team battled injuries throughout the year with several senior leaders missing multiple ballgames.  This team chose a philosophy of "NO EXCUSES" to power through and make one of the best runs in recent memory for Forrest Boys Basketball.

After finishing the regular season with an overall record of 10-17,  the Rockets came together and began playing some of their best basketball of the year.  With most players returning from injury and the excitement of the post season,  Forrest defeated Eagleville, MTCS, and Fayetteville on their way to the 2014 District Championship.  This marked Forrest's first district championship since 2010, and gave this coaching staff and players some redemption after losing in the championship game in 2012.  Forrest went on to defeat McEwen High School in the first round of the Region Tourney and finished their season with a tough loss to East Robertson High School in the Region Semis (Final 32 of the state).  This region semifinal appearance tied several teams of the past as the third farthest that a Forrest Boys Basketball has advanced in post season play.

Recieving some special awards for their play this season were the following student athletes:

All District 9A Regular Season:

#32 Blake Leonard, JR

#30 Jacob Daughrity, SR

All District 9A Tournament Team:

#14 Ty Hoeft, SR

#42 Lucas Pruitt, SR

#32 Blake Leonard, JR (Tournament MVP)

All Region Tournament Team:

#42 Lucas Pruitt, SR

#30 Jacob Daughrity, SR

All of the senior class graduated from Forrest High School and have big plans for their future.  They will become another group of great alumni that have helped shape Forrest Boys Basketball for years to come.

LOOKING AHEAD TO 2014-2015:

Defending a District 9A Championship will not be easy, but the Rockets return several key components to give every effort to do just that.  Look for a few younger players and new faces to emerge as team leaders this year as the whole team looks to gain experience early in the season.  One thing that never changes is the difficult schedule.  Going back several coaches, it has always been Forrest's philosophy to challenge their teams and make sure that they are battle tested by tournament time.  This season will be no different, as the Rockets play 2 AAA teams, 2 AA teams, and several of their other traditional rivalry games.  Please check out our schedule above and plan to come out to Chapel Hill and support the Rockets.
