Town team routes Hanska 13-3 in seven innings

The St. Peter amateurs fielded all of their regular starters for the first time this season and handed the visiting Hanska Lakers a 13-3 thumping in seven innings on Thursday night at Veterans Field. The Saints picked up their first win of the young season after belting out 10 hits, turning three double plays and not committing an error.
Hanska took a 1-0 lead in the first off two singles, but the Saints answered in the bottom half with the tying run and never trailed after that.
St. Peter tacked on two runs in the second for a 3-1 lead before the Lakers cut the deficit to one in the third frame off a leadoff single, stolen base and wild pitch. But the Saints rallied for nine runs in the third, all with two outs, for a commanding 12-2 advantage. The nine runs were scored by way of six hits (two doubles) and three walks.
Hanska scored one in the fifth after a leadoff double eventually reached home on a fielder’s choice, but once again the Saints answered with a run in the bottom half and the 10-run rule was called after seven frames.
Jeff Wenner started on the hill for St. Peter and tossed four innings with two runs allowed on two hits and three walks. Grant Nelsen threw the fifth and sixth innings with one earned run on one hit and two walks. Ty Kaus closed out the seventh with two stikeouts.
Four Saints had multiple hits, led by Shea Roehrkasse with two doubles, two walks and four RBIs. The other three were Kaus (2-3, 2 R, BB, SB), Jesse Munsterman (2-4, 2 R, RBI, 2 SB) and Ben Mikelson (2-4, 2B, 2 R, RBI).
St. Peter begins River Valley League play Sunday at Le Sueur. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
