Pirates ONE win away from the title!!!!!
Posted August 3, 2023
The Plumas Pirates are one win away from being crowned the Santa Clara Baseball Champions for the first time since 2000.
They pounded the Minnedosa Mavericks 36-9 to grab a 2-0 lead in the best of 5 finals. The Mavericks took an early 3-0 lead after 1 complete inning, but Plumas bats were firing on all cylinders and they responded with 7 runs in the 2nd, and never looked back. Mavericks would score 2 more in the 2nd to make it 7-5. However the Plumas offense was just getting going, chasing across 5 more in the 3rd, and 6 more in the 4th. Starters Luke Gugin and Riley McBride both only lasted 2 innings a piece. Plumas had homeruns from their 2-3-4 hitters: Riley McBride, Zac Yandeau, and Carter Schettler. The Plumas fans boo'd loudly as the Mavs intentionally walked Yandeau 5 times. He naturally homered in his other at bat. No one was more motivated after the intentional walks then Carter Schettler; who took matters into his own hands hitting a double, and a grand slam after Yandeau had been issued the free pass. Schettler ended up with 5 rbis on the night. Rylan Single had a 5 hit game for Plumas- he also threw 3 innings of relief.
Game 3 goes next Wednesday in Plumas at 6:30, where the Pirates can try to wrap it up at home and end the drought!
