The Ida Mae Center seeks to improve the quality of life and well-being for all who have been affected by cancer -- patients, caregivers, and survivors through our support groups.

Mission:

To deliver high quality evidence-based health and wellness programs to cancer survivors, caregivers, and families in a home-like setting.

Nearly 40% of the population will be diagnosed with cancer during their lifetime. Thus most families will be affected by a cancer diagnosis. This situation has created an urgent need for health and wellness interventions.

The Ida Mae Center delivers evidence-based integrative holistic programs including nutrition, exercise, spirituality, and individual and group therapy.

From managing pain to boosting your sense of well-being, our free programs and services can help you:

Cope with common side effects from chemotherapy and radiation

Manage symptoms of anxiety, depression, stress and other emotional distress

Control fatigue and insomnia

Reduce muscle pain and tension

Improve muscle strength and balance

Minimize feelings of isolation and loneliness

Find social and emotional support

At the Ida Mae center we help to fill this gap by providing programming and services that include complementary health approaches, as well as emotional and social support services. The programs and services that we provide are safe, evidence-based approaches which may help address various cancer symptoms and treatment-related side effects, whether they be physical, emotional, social or spiritual. Services are meant to complement an individual’s cancer treatment plan—not to replace it.

Mind and Body Wellness

These types of mind and body wellness approaches to health at the Ida ae center are often known as complementary wellness approaches. We encourage all cancer clients to communicate with their health care providers about any complementary health approaches that they are already participating in or would like to incorporate into their treatment care plan.

Emotional and Spiritual Support

Emotional and spiritual support services provide opportunities for individuals to participate in different types of forums that facilitate verbal expression and interpersonal explorations of the cancer experience.

Available services include: individual, couples and family counseling; open support groups tailored for cancer survivors, for caregivers and for bereavement.

Social and Community Connections

To promote social and community connections, we also create opportunities and events to bring individuals and families together in social settings. These activities help participants to enjoy the benefits of being part of a community of understanding, share valuable information and advice with each other, and minimize feelings of isolation and loneliness.

SUPPORT GROUPS

Support groups at the Ida Mae Center provide opportunities for cancer survivors and their family members, friends or caregivers to come together and provide support to one another. Groups help to create a safe and supportive environment for individuals to talk through feelings, to share experiences, challenges and frustrations, and to give and receive advice on managing various cancer-related issues.

These experiences can help people with cancer—and others who are affected by it—to feel more hopeful. Joining a group can may help to improve quality of life and survival by learning how to deal with practical problems and how to better cope with the side effects of cancer treatment.

Support groups at the Ida Mae Center include:

Survivor Support Group

Survivor Support Group is for survivors of any stage of their cancer journey.

Bereavement Support Group

This group is for anyone dealing with the bereavement of a loved one. Anyone who is experiencing any kind of loss is welcome to join the group to receive support.

Caregiver Support Group

This group is open to caregivers of survivors who are struggling to cope with diagnosis and the changes that cancer has made in their own lives.

Research shows evidence that support groups can help lessen feelings of depression and anxiety in people with cancer. Many people feel that support groups provide a unique sense of community and acceptance, especially in contrast to feelings of isolation and lack of information that many experience without social support.

Appointments are not required to attend support groups. Please check the calendar for current schedules or to see any updates, cancellations, etc.
