2017 Season Kick-Off

Posted June 18, 2017

Hey every one and welcome back to the 2017 Crookston Reds baseball season. The start of this season has already seen what we will call a couple of curve balls. The Reds have already had a couple forfeits come there way and are still working on rescheduling games with the Muskies(Warroad). Lets start like this, about a week and change ago the Reds took on there monster rivals the Ada A's, in what most people thought would be a tightly contested, well-played baseball game. If you were at the Karn you would have argured it a bit differently. Ada looks to be young this year and may be down from what we have seen in the past couple of seasons. If there is one thing I have ever learned in all my years playing amateur baseball it's this, dont over look the A's becasue they find ways to get into the mix and stir things up. This past weekend we got a glimse at the defending Region 10 champs, the Blue Ox. They looked to be about where they finished last year, probably not firing on all cylinders yet, but pretty impressive. My gut tells me you can almost pencil them in to be contending during the region tournament in August. Now we were supposed to see the Minors and the Railcats this week but both teams forfeited there games here in Crookston giving the Reds a couple league wins. So lets go with what we know and have a look at the 2017 Reds roster and my point of view through a few games. The manager Cody Magsam looks to be the lead off hitter coming into the season and playing second base exclusively. He is being helped by one of the very few veterans Matt Morin who has been more of a utility player to this point. As the season moves along I am sure Matt will see plenty of time at first and possibly some time in left or even right field. A new face to Reds this year is Rob Silvers. He probably hasn't seen as much time on the field as he would like but has been committed to keeping the behind the scenes stuff in order, which if you don't know, plays a very huge part in having a team day in and day out. A few of the other returners this year are Aaron Hollcraft, Seth Derosier, Ryan Porter, Joey Koenig, Tanner Reinhart, Zach Landman, Lars Brevick & Cody Wardner. Look for these guys to all be making huge impacts this summer in there quest for a birth in the Class C State Tournament. I will give you all more info about some of the new faces as I get to know them and maybe even some profile information and player interviews as the season goes. As for now, lets just keep looking forward to baseball weather and enjoy the months of baseball we get her up North. Hope to see you all out at the upcoming Crookston Reds home games!
