Whitson Tremendous Out Of The Bullpen On Friday
Posted April 18, 2021
Coming out of the Bulldog Bullpen on Friday in the 2nd inning, sophomore, Josh Whitson bowed his neck, stood tall and pitched like we have known he can pitch. The tall, mechanically clean right hander went 4 2/3 innings in relief, surrendering 5 hits, no earned runs (2 unearned), and striking out 6 South Greene Rebels against only one walk. Of the 76 pitches "J Whitty" threw, 54 of them were for stikes. He faced 21 batters and threw first pitch strikes to 14 of them. Whitson has had to learn on the fly, starting at the shortstop position on Varsity after only playing one JV game as a freshman due to our season being suspended and later cancelled, but Friday was a great sign for the future of our pitching staff with Whitson on the mound.
Thursday and Friday were disappointing. A big lead after an offensive explosion in the first inning vs. Lakeway Christian did not hold up over seven innings on Thursday, and we could not get hits to drop on Friday at South Greene, only striking out six times as a ball club, but only collecting four hits as a team.
We look forward to this week, beginning with a trip to county and conference rival, the Unaka Rangers. JV first pitch is at 4:30 followed by Varsity under the lights at 7:00 on Monday, April 19.
