Let's Appreciate Where We Are.
Posted April 20, 2021
The expectations from within the Bulldog Baseball program have always been so very high. Nothing has changed from that standpoint. Although we feel we have let some games slip away that we would like to have back, we do feel it is important to appreciate accomplishments that should be appreciated. The Baseball Bulldogs won their second consecutive game against the Warriors from Happy Valley on Saturday, March 20 (After beating them on March 12, 2020 at HV). The boys from Hampton recorded a solid conference win at Scotty Bunton Field vs. the Sullivan North Raiders on March 30th.
The Bulldogs won a thriller in Mountain City against the Longhorns for what is either the first or the second win at Johnson County since 1989! On Monday and Tuesday (April 19 and 20) the Baseball Bulldogs outscored the Unaka Rangers 27-0 in the two game series, with both games ending in a mercy rule. The first game featured a Caleb Royston no hitter. The second game featured sophomore, Josh Whitson continuing to show he has the ability to be a strike throwing machine, as the young right hander threw 41 of his 56 pitches for strikes! The series also featured first baseman, McKinley Kuhn going a combined 5-7 with 6 RBI and 3 runs scored. It also featured senior team captain, Josh Owens, just finding out he will be at the designated hitter slot for the present time, busting out and collecting four hits and drawing two walks in the series. Owens raised his season batting average to .325.
There is a lot of baseball to be played. A game at Cannon-Gouge Park to battle Happy Valley looms on Thursday, a series vs. powerhouse University High is next week, and hosting Johnson County the following week, among others, but we do appreciate the positives from our season so far.
