A Truly Convincing Win!
Posted April 22, 2021
For the third consecutive contest between the two ball clubs, the Hampton Bulldogs defeated the Happy Valley Warriors. This time, however, the game was never in doubt. The visiting Bulldogs jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the 1st inning! Caleb Royston pitched like an ace on Thursday. The junior right hander struck out 12 Warriors of the 18 outs the Bulldogs had to record.
Notes
*Josh Owens moved to the designated hitter slot in the batting order on Monday. All he has done since then is go 8-8 with two doubles and two walks!
*We learned on Monday that Morgan Lyons is tied for the Northeast, Tennessee lead in batting average, with a whopping .500 average. You know you are swinging a great stick when your average drops to .491 after collecting a 2B and 2 more RBI on Thursday.
*Parker Henry had two more hits on Thursday. He continues to use his ability to bunt the baseball to his advantage, collecting another bunt hit (to go along with his line drive up the middle). Like a wizard with a wand, Parker's ability to play "small ball" is magic!
*Conor Jones had two more hits and knocked in three runs. We continue to say, what he is doing is something special, having not played the game of baseball since "Coach Pitch," to be contributing as he has speaks highly for his work ethic, first of all, but also for his athletic ability and hand-eye coordination.
*McKinley Kuhn has quietly been getting better and better. He has worked hard behind the scenes on his swing. The results are starting to be there for the big 1B. He recorded 2 RBI on Thursday.
*Collin Morgan hit a 2B on Thursday. He is starting to be the offensive force in the batters box that we anticipated he would be when he arrived from Roan Mountain.
*Thursday's win was a total team effort. The Baseball Bulldogs have won 9 of their last 12 games after a 2-5 start to the 2021 season. We travel to the Washburn Pirates on Friday for a 5:30 or 6:00 first pitch.
