Sens to host eight-team Keith Sell Invite

HELENA, MT - The 20th annual Keith Sell Invitational Tournament kicks off Thursday at Kindrick Legion Field, with the opening game between Eastside (Kennewick, Washington) Baseball and the Class A Gallatin Valley Outlaws, taking place at 9 a.m.

The tournament is made up of eight teams, and hosted by the Helena Senators.

Also competing will be the Kalispell Lakers, Bozeman Bucks, Butte Miners, Saskatoon Diamondbacks and Calgary Redbirds.

The tournament is named after longtime Legion baseball icon Keith Sell, who served in different capacities for the local ball club during five decades.

The host Senators (23-12) open their tournament at 8 p.m. versus Kalispell.

Coach Dave Thennis’ Senators returned from the Walla Walla Tournament on Sunday, where they went 3-2, before dropping a cliff-hanger to Bozeman on Tuesday, 9-7.

"We're looking forward to a great tournament; there are lots of competitive teams, which should make for exciting baseball," Thennis said. "(Our mindset) is to continue to improve."

At 6 p.m. Friday, the Senators players will be handing out autographed team posters at the ballpark.

The Sell tourney runs for four days, with five games being contested daily. The championship game is slated for 8 p.m. Sunday at Kindrick Legion Field.
