Diamondbacks Hang On to Beat Cubs 12-10

CAIRNS, SK – The Saskatoon Diamondbacks outlasted the Saskatoon Cubs to pick up a 12 to 10 victory yesterday afternoon at Cairns Field. The game started off really well for the Diamondbacks, but not so well for the baby bears as the Dbacks had a 4-0 lead midway through the first. Nolan Machibroda was starting for the Diamondbacks, and he had a great first inning. A nice, easy 1-2-3 inning to start things off. The Dbacks got another two in their half of the 2nd before the Cubs answered back with two of their own.
It seemed like everything was going so well, and then it wasn't anymore. In their half of the third, the Cubs scored 6 runs to take an 8 to 6 lead and chase Machibroda off the mound after giving up 8 runs, 4 earned, with 2 K’s and 2 BB’s and 4 hits. Graham Forrester started the 4th inning, going the distance to pick up his 2nd win of the year. Statistically Forrester had 1 K, 2 BB’s and allowed 2 runs.
Offensively the Dbacks were led by Carter Dahl who went 2 for 4 with 2 RBIs. Jordan Malainey was 2 for 5, while Garrett Krawchuk and Nolan Machibroda were both 1 for 2 with an RBI. Cody Murfitt was 1 for 3 with an RBI and Jared Thompson had a sac fly to pick up an RBI.
The DBacks have today off before travelling on Wednesday to play the Muenster Red Sox.
