LETHBRIDGE - After striking out the first batter, the Dbacks starting pitcher, Alex Grenier walked the next 3 to load the bases. He then struck out the side to end the top of the first inning in the Dbacks opening game of the Mary Oikawa Mememorial Tournament in Lethbridge. With none out, the Dbacks loaded the bases, and ended the first inning up by one over the Medicine Hat Monarchs. Tyrone Polson blasted a 3 run dinger over the right field wall to give the Dbacks a 4-1 lead at the end of the 4th. After that it was all Monarchs as they ended up beating the Dbacks 7-4. Alex Grenier pitched 5 and a third innings before handing the ball to Garrett Krawchuk. Ryan Olchoway closed the game out on the mound for the Dbacks.
The Dbacks next game is against the Calgary Redbirds at noon today. Last night the Redbirds beat the Saskatoon Cubs 11-8.
