The highs and lows of youth baseball

After playing so well on Saturday the Indians rolled into Townline Park planning to take some victories away from the ever dangerous Abbotsford Angels but alas it was not to be. Game 1 was a well played affair by both sides. TriCity led by a great pitching performance from Shane Yee took a 1 run lead into the 4th inning but just a couple of pitches that didn't quite hit their spots found Abby up 2-1 after a home run by Dick, double by Peters and a sac fly from Snow. That was all they needed as they went on to win 4-1. The Indians fought hard to the end putting pressure on in the 6th and 7th but the stingy defense of the Angels wouldn't allow any comeback on the day. Yee's pitching was a particular positive for the game as was the hitting of Stanyer, Blight and Columbus.
Just a short while later game 2 was a completely different matter. The Angels came out with patience and swinging when the pitch was there. Control was a bit of an issue with the Indians pitchers in this one as they gave up a whopping 16 walks not being able to use the bottom part of the strike zone. And when they did put it in there, the Angels put it in play. Unfortunately on the offensive side the Angels pitchers had more success with the strike zone and the Indian hitters seemed zapped by the valley heat. The closest this one got was 6-2 for the Angels after 3 complete but in the end it was an 18-2 pounding. On the positive side Blight continued with some good at bats, Sugi hit his first triple of the year and Wilson's bat finally returned. Blowouts happen at all levels of baseball and for the sake of everyone, we'll just put this one away and start afresh on Wednesday as the Delta Tigers come to Bird Field for the Indians home opener.
