Richmond Queen Victoria Day Tournament Re-cap!

Congratulations to the Delta Tigers who defeated the Richmond Chuckers 3-0 in the Championship "A" Flight final to become 2016 Memorial Day tournament Champions.  It was a tight game with Delta scoring singles in the 1st, 3rd, and 5th innnings.  Richmond had plenty of opportunities to score but Deltas defence was stingy and were able to get out of a couple of jams with double plays.  It was a great game played by two well coached teams.

Congratulations to the Vancouver Expos who mowed over the Tri City Indians 9 - 0 in the Championship "B" flight Final.  A tough loss for our boys but a well deserved win for the Vancouver Expos.

In the "C" Flight Final congratulations to the Chilliwack Cougars who won their Championship game by a 9 - 2 score over the Cloverdale Spurs.

In the infamous "Toilet Bowl Championship"  The White Rock Tritons prevailed flushing the Parkland Twins 11 - 9.

In closing the Tri City Indians had a great time in what has become the Premier Bantam Baseball Tournament in B.C.  No other Tournament comes close to this one.  A special thanks to Tournament Coordinator Larry Moscovitz who along with the other Richmond Parents and many other volunteers who worked tirelessly for 5 days updating websites, preparing fields, working in the concession, cleaning washrooms, and the many other things that go unnoticed to produce such a fine event for these young men to showcase their talents.

Last but not least a special thanks to all the players who once again showed that the best 15U baseball in this Province is played in BC Baseballs Bantam Division.  This whole weekend was about the players and finally a Tournament that was put on with that in mind.

Its to bad that the ramifications of the BC Baseball and Baseball BC power struggle has affected these young men who play in BC Baseballs 15U Bantam AAA League.  These are young men playing baseball because they love the game the same as the 15U players playing in the other leagues.  But because of this dispute BC Baseball teams are now regulated to play in a 10 team qualification tournament for 3 available spots in Baseball BC"s Provincial Tournament.  While Baseball BC automaticaly gives 7 berths to other teams.

The Governing body in Ontario accomodates ALL teams fairly. For example in 2014 they had 18 teams show interest for their Provincial Playdowns and they organized an 18 team double knockout Tournament so that all the teams and players could have an equal chance and opportunity to participate to play in the Nationals and Westerns.

It is sad that the governing body for Baseball players in BC
does not afford our teams and players, that same equal fair opportunity as all other teams, when it comes to representing BC at the Nationals and Westerns!  Shame on all the individuals that our behind this petty squabble.  It is a sad and embarassing moment for Baseball in BC.  Remember we are here for the kids!

Vancouver Expos Dominate Indians!

There was no stopping the Vancouver Expos in this one as they won the coin toss, scored early,  pounded out 12 hits, and played flawless defence cruising to an uncontested 9 - 0 victory over the Tri City Indians in the "B" Flight Championship game.

The Indians were unable to match the Expos intensity in this one ane it turned out to be a one sided affair.  Offensively the Indians were unable to solve the Expo starting pitcher and were not patient enough sit back and get the proper timing needed to have success.  Without that approach the Expo defence was never really tested as the Indians never walked all day and aggressively popped and flew out  a total of 9 times whild striking out another 5.  In total 5 hits, zero walks and 14 easy outs for the Expo defence does not bode well in scoring runs.

A positive to take out of the game was that the boys despite giving up 9 runs played well in the field and as a group never sagged and played hard till the end, staving off the mercy loss by making plays leaving 5 Expo runners stranded in the last two innings.  Things wont get any easier for the Indians as they resume their regular League action on Thursday night against the same Vancouver Expos.

Next up on the Indians Hit List: Vancouver Expos

Indians Exterminate Black Eagles!

The Tri City Indians sent the Victoria Black Eagles packing with a 9 - 4 Victory in the "B" Flight semi final game.

The Eagles struck first in this one scoring 2 in the 2nd inning.  Things started to turn after a heated exchange between Coach Pawlick and Victorias manager Mabee had to be broken up by plate umpire Phil Bourgerois.  Both benches seemed to come alive after that which seemed to ignite the fans in the stands.

The Indians eventually tied this one up in the top of the 7th inning, held off the bases loaded threat of the Eagles in the bottom of the seventh, then pelted the Eagles with 6 runs in the offensively friendly International rules extra inning.  The Eagles managed to land on home plate once in the bottom of the 8th,  At the end of this one the battered Eagles were unable to fly and sailed home.

Okotoks Dawgs have to much Bite for Indians!

The Okatoks Dawgs defeated the Tri City Indians 4 - 1 in the quarter final game knocking the Indians down to the "B" Flight playoffs.  It was another solid day for the Indians on defence as Blight was tenacious on the hill striking out 7 Dawgs batters and got strong support from the rest of his teamates holding the Dawgs offence to 4 runs on 6 hits.  Offensively Other than Columbus (3 hits) and Blight (1 hit) the rest of the Indian offense was non existent combining to strike out 15 times in the game.

Tigers Claw and Scratch out a win over Indians!

The Delta Tigers defeated the Tri City Indians 8 - 3 in the final round robin game.  The Tribe defence was good enough for the win but offensively it was a different story as theTigers were better in all facets of the game outhitting, out walking, and striking out less than their Indian counterparts.

With the Win the Tigers came 1st in the pool.  However the Indians also advance into the Quarter Finals finishing 2nd in the pool.

The Indians are now the lowest seed from the BC Minor Baseball Bantam AAA league to advance in the tournament and things wont get easier in the Quarter finals as the Indians will face off against the perennial Alberta powerhouse Okatoks Dogs.

Other Teams that advanced to The Quarter Finals are:
Delta Tigers vs Victoria Black
Abbotsford Angels vs. Burnaby Braves
Richmond Chuckers vs. Vancouver Expos

In the Consolation round and in line to play in the infamous "Toilet "Bowl" game are:
White Rock Tritons vs. Cloverdale Spurs
Chilliwack Cougars vs. Parkland

Tribe Upset Tritons in comeback win!

The Tri City Indians fought back from an early 2 - 0 deficit to defeat the White Rock Tritons to win their opening game in Richmonds Queen Victoria Tournament!

Wilsons two 9 pitch at bats against White Rocks tough lefty starter got the offence fired up and Stanyer came into the game in the 2nd inning to settle things down and shut the door, picking up the win and the MVP trophy.  Blights two hits and strong leadership led the way and the rest of the group was quick to follow.   It was a great win for the boys who have had their share of adversity this season.

Thing wont get any easier as the next game is on Saturday at 4:30 against the high rolling Delta Tigers.
