Bird Island defeats Granite Falls 4-2

On a hot July day, Jesse Bjur, the ace of the Frogs pitching staff, stymie’s the Granite Falls bats and Bird Island picked up a 4-2 win on Sunday afternoon.
Granite Falls got on the board first, scoring a run in the 4th on a double followed up by a single.
Bird Island answered back in the bottom of the 5th. Ben Maiers hit a triple with two outs and scored when Dylan Gass hustled down the line beating out an infield single. The Frogs added 3 more runs in the bottom of the 6th. Mark Neubauer singled, followed by Andy Dollerschell’s walk. Andrew Brooks then singled and Neubauer scored. Ben Maiers later hit a single, driving in both Dollerschell and Brooks.
Granite Falls scored 1 run in the 8th, but it wasn’t enough, as Brad Gass closed out the game on the mound. Bjur, pitched 6-2/3 innings, allowing 1 run and striking out 5…picking up the win. Brad Gass got the save, pitching 2-1/3 innings, allowing 1 run.

With the win, Bird Island improves their record to 10-8 overall and 5-4 in Cornbelt League play.
The Frogs travel to Raymond on Friday night, for a 7:30 game.
