Season Opening Series in the books.

The Calgary Giants started the 2022 season off in unique fashion with three consecutive games against the Calgary Dukes.  With a shrtage of bodies and some new faces in the lineup, it was a interesting start with some ups and downs, but all things considered, a 1-2 record against the hardhitting Dukes is all good.  Here's the rundown:

Game 1: Latos took the ball and was outstanding spinning a no-hit effort thru 5 innings and tossed 6 strong.  Unfortunately, the boys couldn't keep it together and gave up a big 7th inning allowing the Dukes to snipe the W.  New guys Babs, Frank & Grieder all made their debuts in this one and player of the game nod went to Latty with an honorurable mention to Jared Lee who ws swinging it with a couple knocks.  Tough 10-4 loss, Latty deserved better.

Game 2: Not a close game, not perticuarly fun either as it got cold and the innings were long.  Franklin had a couple hits and Kenny threw really well in his first appearance as a starter in recent memory.  Other than that...we're glad it's over!

Jacket for the day went to Latos, no brainer.  Classic Latos Stud effort

We'd also like to wish new Giant Andrew Grieder best wishes as he heads off for an amazing baseball adventure after todays games.  He'll be starting off by spending the summer in Prague playing baseball in an amazing city.  He'll then be jetting to New Zealand for the fall season.  Too much fun.  Very Jealous!  All the best pal!

Game 3:  The bats woke up. Havers bailed us out by catching this one and looked great back there.  Jayde took the ball and was solid, and the boys put up 17 runs on 14 hits, working some great ABs.  A couple triples, handful of doubles, and most importantly, GANZ dusting off the gear to play some 2B and rip a double off the wall.  Just an absolute stud.  Pfeil came in for a good inning of relief, and there were too many offensive contributors to mention.  17-7 final in 5 and we were glad to hit the break on the upswing.

Jacket went to Havers, bailed us out behind the dish, great day at the plate also with a big double and a couple RBIs.  Well done sir.

Just glad to be back at the park!
