TRIO OF FORMER AXEMEN PLAYING SUMMER COLLEGIATE BASEBALL

Three members of the 2015 Camrose Axemen team are suiting up for summer collegiate baseball, which started last weekend. Dylan Borman (Camrose), Riley Guntrip (Camrose) and Chance Wheatley (Bawlf) are are set to play their second consecutive season in either the Western Major Baseball League or the West Coast League this summer.

Dylan Borman - Lethbridge Bulls - Western Major Baseball League
The 2015 North Central Alberta Baseball League Most Promising Junior award winner has spent the last two seasons with the Prairie Baseball Academy Dawgs of the Canadian Collegiate Baseball Conference. There the power hitting third baseman would be a part of back to back CCBC Champion winning Dawgs teams. PBA has won a total of seven consecutive CCBC Championships after their 2017 win. For the 2016 summer, Borman would join the Yorkton Cardinals of the Western Major Baseball League along with Axemen teammate and PBA teammate Chance Wheatley. The pair would help Yorkton make the playoffs and go on a successful run. This summer Borman will be suiting up for the powerhouse Lethbridge Bulls of the Wester Major Baseball League. A perennial favourite, the Bulls have been a top notch WMBL team since forming in 1999. The Lethbridge Bulls are in Edmonton for three games, Thursday June 15, Thursday July 6 and Friday July 7

Riley Guntrip - Victoria Harbourcats - West Coast League
The young catcher has moved from playing baseball in Okotoks, to Siena Heights University in Adrian, Michigan, to the University of British Columbia and the Victoria Harbourcats of the West Coast League, a premier summer collegiate baseball league on the west coast. Guntrip would originally be signed to a 10 day contract to start the 2016 season with the Harbourcats before earning a full season with the team and helped them achieve a WCL record forty wins. This summer Guntrip will return to the Victoria HarbourCats, who are now coached by longtime Kansas City Royal, Brian McRae. Guntrip would win the NCABL/Servus Credit Union Scholarship during his only full season with the Axemen in 2015.

Chance Wheatley - Yorkton Cardinals - Western Major Baseball League
Infielder Chance Wheatley has been a key part in the success of the teams he has played on. Wheatley joined the Axemen for the 2014 season prior to playing with the Prairie Baseball Academy Dawgs, where he won two CCBC Championships, and the Yorkton Cardinals. Wheatley and Dylan Borman would join the Yorton Cardinals of the Western Major Baseball League for the summer of 2016. With a future in coaching baseball likely, Wheatley will once again return to the Yorkton Cardinals for the summer of 2017. Playing second base for the Cardinals, Wheatley contributed greatly to the teams great run in 2016 as they look to take the next step in 2017. Unfortunately the Cardinals will not be playing any regular season games in Edmonton this summer as the western conference teams will travel to the eastern conference teams this season. Wheatley was a NCABL All-Star in both 2014 and 2015, his two full seasons in the NCABL.
