Supers Over Bison 10-6

Posted July 3, 2012

In a battle for 3rd overall spot in the SESBL standings, the Supers travelled to Melville to face their long time friendly rivals, the Bison. The weather forecast called for a 100% chance of thunderstorms, and the clouds looked threatening for the entire evening. However, Mother Nature cooperated and the game was played with only a few drops of rain.

As bad as the skies looked for most of the early evening, the Supers defence looked even worse in the bottom of the second as 4 costly errors lead to 4 unearned runs as the Bison took a 5-0 lead. At this point in the game, things were looking bleak, but nobody let their emotions get the best of them. After the early hiccup, the Supers came back to life in the top of the third with 4 runs on 2 walks, a hit batter, and two hits to make the game close. After tying the game in the top of the 4th, the Supers erupted for 5 runs in the top of the 6th inning to put the game out of reach as they cruised to a 10-6 win.

Leading the way with the sticks for Canora was Zach Rakochy with 3 singles and 3 rbi`s and a run scored. Mark Cuthill was 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored and a walk, while playing a steady second base. Derek Palagian had an rbi single and Greg Andreychuk had an rbi double. Myk Rostotski reached base on 3 walks and scored each time, also getting an rbi as he walked with the bases loaded. Darcy Blommaert scored a pair of runs for the Supers as well.

On the hill, Darcy Blommaert pitched another complete game, as he went all 7 innings. He scattered 10 hits and gave up 6 runs, but only 2  of the runs were earned. He had 3 walks and struck out 4 Bison hitters as he improved to 2 wins and 0 losses on the year.

With the victory, the Supers record rises to 7 wins, 5 losses and 1 tie. They finish their regular season schedule on Wednesday, July 4 as the Yorkton Junior Cardinals make an appearance at Al Sapieha Field. With a win the Supers would clinch third in the SESBL standings. First pitch is 6:15 as Derek Palagian is the starting pitcher.
