Supers Lose Home Opener
Posted May 15, 2018
A promising home opener for the Supers versus the three time defending Southeast Senior Baseball League champion Yorkton Yankees turned sour late as a 5-3 Supers lead became a lacklustre 11-5 defeat in the blink of an eye.
Offensively the Supers took advantage of six Yankee errors to score five runs off of perennial top pitcher of the league Logan Calanchie. Trailing 2-0 going into the bottom of the 2nd, Derek Palagian and Ian Quewezance started the inning off with back to back singles. Three Yankee errors eventually led to the Supers taking a 3-2 lead after two. In the top of the fifth, Sean Kolodziejski started off with a single followed by a two run home run by Kholton Shewchuk to take a 5-3 lead. Unfortunately the lead was shortlived as the Yankees put up four runs in both the the top of the sixth and seventh to put the game away
Logan Parachoniak started on the mound for the Supers, and did not allow a hit over 3 2/3 innings. Unfortunately he allowed seven walks and two hit batters giving up two earned runs with four strikeouts. Logan was relieved by brother Colby Parachoniak who allowed five runs over 2 1/3 innings on four hits, two strikeouts and three walks to eventually take the loss. Kholton Shewchuk pitched the top of the seventh allowing four runs on three hits with one strikeout.
One of the few bright spots on the day was the Supers defence as only one error was committed on the evening. Making their debut in Supers uniforms was shortstop Ian Quewezance of Kamsack and outfielder Jorden Cherewyk of Yorkton (formerly Norquay)
The Supers are back at it Wednesday, May 16 as they host the Willowbrook Royals. First pitch is 6:15 PM at Al Sapieha Field
