2019 Season Preview
Posted May 8, 2019
The 2019 version of the Supers looks to be in the mix for a Southeast Senior Baseball League title. Managing the team will be Greg Andreychuk. His first season with the Supers was in 1999 and has been a player/coach since 2011.
The big acquisition for the season will be none other than 2016 WMBL Top Pitcher Kody Rock, who also spent time with the Milwaukee Brewers farm system and some time in another professional baseball league in the USA. Rock will not only bring his repetoire of pitches to the table, but a lethal bat and great defensive ability to the left side of the infield. He will bat in the heart of the order where he is expected to deliver the goods.
Also back for the Supers will be Kholton Shewchuk of Rama. He will also be counted on to log some innings on the mound and drive runs in from the middle of the order. He will also solidify the infield defense.
Derek Palagian of Sturgis will be back for his 16th season. He will be a regular in the pitching rotation and patrol left field. He has swung the bat well for several years and will be looked upon for more production
Rounding out the pitching staff will be Dylan Toffan (Canora), Colby Parachoniak (Yorkton), Logan Parachoniak (Yorkton), Adam Korb (Yorkton), Darcy Blommaert (Yorkton), and Terry Cumming (Yorkton). If everyone can pitch to their capabilities than this should be the deepest staff in the league. With only 14 games in the regular season it will be tough for all to pitch regularly. Blommaert and Cumming will also log some innings with the Parkland Padres, while Palagian will see extra appearances with the Yorkton Orioles.
The batting order promises to be one of the most lethal in the league when everyone is there. Travis Mentanko of Canora has been the Supers most dangerous hitter for the past five seasons. Although he will make limited appearances, he should still be one of the most respected hitters in the league. Phil Sobkow (Calder) will be another big bat in the middle of the order. He is also another respected hitter throughout the league but will not be avialable much until seeding is complete.
Returning from last year is Ian Quewezance of Kamsack. His rookie season was nothing short of stellar, as he hit very well and played excellent defence at shortstop. He will be counted on for much of the same this season.
Sean Kolodziejski will be back to hit in the leadoff spot where he gets on base often and is a threat to steal a bag or two. He stepped up as the catcher last year and looks to spend some more time behnd the dish.
Logan Parachoniak should spend most of his time at second base when he is not pitching. His bat has been very potent for the past few seasons and appears to not be letting up.
In the outfield Derek Palagian, Evan Rostotski (Norquay), Jorden Cherewyk (Yorkton via Norquay), Brogan Legebokoff (Yorkton) and player/coach Greg Andreychuk will vie for playing time.
New to the team this season will be Jordan Evans and Tanner Melnychuk of Yorkton. Evans will be able to play almost anywhere and appears to have a solid left handed bat. He spent a couple seasons playing for the Parkland Expos Midget AAA a couple seasons ago. Melnychuk will play some corner infield while adding some much needed youth and commitment
The Supers will have a 14 game regular season beginning Friday May 10 in Yorkton vs the Yorkton Orioles at 6 PM. The home opener will be Thursday May 16 vs the Willowbrook Royals at 6:15 PM.. Playoffs will begin approximately July 8 and end by late July or early August depending on how far the team goes. The Supers look forward to seeing everyone at the park for what promises to be an exciting season!
