Boys & Girls Both Heading to State for 4th Year in a Row.

Posted April 21, 2014

The Cinco Ranch Cougar Boys & Girls both qualified for the State Tournament for the 4th year in a row!  The girls won the Region III-5A Golf Tournament on April 14-15, 2014 and the boys placed in the top three on April 16-17.  Both teams have won the Region two of the last four years.  The Region III-5A results can be found on the top 4 buttons of this website as the Cougars are the host school for the tournament held at Eagle Pointe Golf Club in Mont Belvieu.

The girls won the Region Championship with a 307-312 (619) to defeat Clements 315-312 (627) by 8 strokes.  Junior Maddie Luitwieler of CRHS won the Individual Championship by one stroke over Kari Bush of Clear Lake.  Maddie was last year's Runner-Up and this year's 19-5A District Champion.  Maddie shot 71-73.  She continued her hot streak after District and Region with an AJGA Individual Championship this past Easter weekend at A&M Traditions.  Maddie is committed to The University of Texas in Austin as a junior.  Also making the "All Region Team" for a top 10 finish for CRHS were sophomore Katy Rutherford (78-77) and senior Oral Roberts University signee Kennedy Ishee (76-79).  Both finished tied for 4th at Regionals.  Kennedy will be playing in her 4th State Tournament for quite a career at CRHS.  Katy Rutherford played with a partially separated shoulder and really "grinded it out" for her Cougar team.  Junior Sara Kelley and junior Alexis Kollmansberger finished in 15th place with matching 82-83 scores to help lead the Cougars to victory.

The boys were the defending Region Champions and ended up in 3rd place with a fine 302-302 (604) score on a very tough golf course.  They fought hard and won the state qualifier spot by 20 strokes over Cy-Ranch who shot 312-312 (624).  The Cougars barely missed 2nd place against Deer Park who shot 303-299 (602).  The Cougars were tied for the lead after day 1 score of 302 to District 19-5A rival Seven Lakes, but could not overcome their fine 291 on the second day.  The entire Cinco Ranch community is still very proud of our Cougars as they qualified for their 4th State Championship in a row.  State will be played this year at Onion Creek CC in Austin on April 28-29.  The Cougar boys finished in 4th place and the girls in 3rd place at this year's State Preview, so they are really looking forward to a great showing at State.

Making the "All Region Team" for the boy Cougars were seniors Tom Mclaughlin and North Texas University signee Michael Cotton who both shot matching 75-73 scores.  They finished in 8th place at Region.  Finishing tied for 20th were Freshman Cade Kiser (76-78) and Sophomore Conor Watkins (76-78) who came up very big for the Cougars as underclassmen.  Senior and a signee to play at The Air Force Academy J.D. Kiesewetter shot a 84-82.  Captain Kiesewetter will be tough at the State Tournament where he shot in the low 70's at the State Preview.

The coaches, school and community are very proud of their "Grind It Out" Cougars!!!!!!  Way to go.......State for a 4th consecutive year!!!
