Cougar Boys & Girls Qualify for Regionals. Girls win district with 304-297. April 2, 2015

The Cinco Ranch HS Cougar Golf boys and girls both qualify for the Region III-6A Golf Tournament.

The girls played great at District and won The Championship by 56 strokes after shooting 304-297.  The boys fought off a tough Strake Jesuit team on the back nine of Parkland to score 305 and beat them by 2 strokes for second place.  The boys were tied with Strake at the final turn.

Both the boys and the girls have each won the District Championship 7 of the last 9 years.  They play the Region III-6A Tournament at Eagle Pointe GC on April 13-14 (Girls) and on April 15-16 (Boys).  The Cougars are trying to both make it to the State Tournament for the 5th year in a row.  Last year the girls won the Region Championship and placed 5th at State.  This year the girls have won 6 tournaments and placed 2nd in two others out of their 8 tournaments which includes District.

Seniior Maddie Luitwieler (committed to The University of Texas) won the Individual District Championship by shooting 71-69.  She is also the Defending Region Champion.  Junior Katy Rutherford won 3rd place at District with a 76-74.  Junior Madison Goldblum shot 78-79, Senior Alexis Kollmansberger (committed to Grand Canyon Univ. in Phoenix) shot a 79-79, and Senior Sara Kelley shot 83-75.  All five finished in the top 10 and earned "All-District Honors".  The girls 601 was identical to last year's District team score.  Sophomore Sarah Zimmerle shot 81-85 as a medalist and ended up qualifying for the Regional Tournament too as a medalist with a top district score.  Both Gillian Predmore and Emily Bae were coming off of injuries but "grinded it out" and shot 103-100.

The Cougar top five boys were new experience wise to the District Tournament with 1 junior and 4 sophomores.  They did a great job under the pressure of the District Tournament and advanced as the 2nd place team.  Seven Lakes won the team title with 5 seniors and have a great chance at winning the Region.  The young CRHS Cougars made everyone proud of their Region qualifying berth by beating a great 3rd place team in Strake Jesuit.  Sophomore Jamie Rogers came in with a strong second day score of 74 to lead the Cougars.  Sophomores Jared Bray and Cade Kiser both added solid 76's on the lightning quick greens.  Sophomore Lorenzo Siboro added a 79 to the 305 total, and Junior Will Speer led the Cougars the first day with a 76.

The Cougar Boys second team tied for 4th place with a great showing too.  Senior Kyle Rogers carded a 79 and Senior Kyle Engel added an 80 as the Cougars second team shot 323.  Other good rounds for the second team included Junior Ryan Phelps with an opening round 75, Junior Conor Watkins shot 83, Junior Kellen Mayes shot 81, and Senior medalist Chris Jackson shot a 88.
