Cold night brings heated comments

A cold night produced controversy early in the season on this blog as the Ryley Rebels and Leduc Milleteers game was reportedly postponed Thursday night.

The other two games, in neighbouring Bardo and in Camrose were still played. Rumours were being slagged shortly after sunset by multiple teams.

Discussed at length at the league meeting, teams have at their discretion, especially the home team, to postpone games for many different reasons.

Provided in the rules, and monitored by the President I would assume, a team could post a $100 appeal (usually the opposing team) if they felt a team should have to forfeit, pay fines or any other protest for any reason.

It’s unprecedented for a team not associated with the game to file an appeal, let alone on a game that wasn’t played.

Feel free to share your thoughts, but it was decided at the league meeting not to write and paint teams into black and white situations as things arise between field conditions and player attendance. The opposing team carries the weight it seems right now, especially if they are at home.

However, if you are a visiting team, and it is miserable out and a team offers to maybe postpone the game, what do you do?

I will say Bardo contacted us throwing out the idea to postpone the game last night. We, ourselves had only 9 players and two of our best absent. I told them it was in their court as the home team, and we should probably play if it is dry.

At the end of the day, this is a grey area. And you might have to get over it. Although dry, it was darn cold last night.
