Micklich Cools Milleteer’s Bats

Micklich Cools Milleteer’s Bats
In a rematch from last year’s championship deciding game starters Steven Pahl and Maury Micklich squared off. The game closely resembled the the final as the Blue Jays got ahead early as they they got a couple of hits in the first to score 1, then used some sloppy Milleteer defense in the third to plate another after an error to the first baseman and then a mental error when the middle infield could not decide who had the bag on a steal attempt to score a run. In the fourth cleanup hitter Zack Lang took a first pitch fastball deep for the first homer in Leduc since the switch to wood bats. After that starter Steven Pahl settled down and did not allow another run as he ended up with 11 strikeouts on the night to give his team a chance to win.

That chance came in the fifth as Micklich kept getting outs, just as he did
last year in the playoffs. With two out Micklich got an easy comebacker from
third baseman Trevor Pahl, but he threw it away to extend the inning. After
back to back singles and a walk the lead was cut to one and the bases were
loaded. The Milleteers tapped Mark Walker to pinch hit, but after working the
count in his favor with a 2-0 count, he ended up striking out on a curve in the
dirt to end the threat. The Milleteers then went down meekly after that as they
again failed to solve the soft tossing Micklich riddle as he gained a complete
game victory to put the Blue Jays back in the playoff hunt.

With the loss the Milleteers now face the red hot Ryley Rebels on the road
Thursday in what could be the critical battle to determine home field advantage
for the playoffs. The way the Milleteers have played at home this year they
might want to cede home field advantage as they have been much better on the
road. Either way they need to find a way to break out of their offensive and at
times defensive funk.
