Spring has sprung as well as rumours

Rumours abound this spring as the Spring Meeting is set for April 4 at at the Tofield Arena.

Although the league added a team with the addition of the Sherwood Park Dukes, the tentative schedule released (won’t be published online until finalized) has a couple familiar names missing.

That’s because the Ryley Rebels and Bardo Athletics (gasp) have joined forces to create the Tofield Braves, reportedly. The marriage makes this author remember what many in Armena called, “The Deal With the Devil” when the Armena Royals and Camrose Roadrunners joined forces in 2002 and went on to win back-to-back-to-back championships from 2002-2004, despite being arch-rivals for several years prior.

Once the meeting takes place or sooner – if teams solidify the schedule, it will be posted online.

Also, the local Battle River Sports Excellence is planning an after-hour event specifically for Men’s League teams on April 6 from 6 to 9 p.m. Special pricing and all the gear will be available for viewing. For more information, contact Dave Borman and dave@battleriversports.ca or (780) 678-2171.
