Alberta Baseball Prospects Get Showcased

The baseball community is becoming more and more connected and it’s an exciting time for young ball players. Talented young baseball players across the province are getting a new avenue to showcase their talents for recruiters with the re-launch of the Prep Baseball Report (PBR) in Alberta.
The goal of the PBR is to get more players seen by more recruiters while making it easier for recruiters across North America to find the right player for their program. PBR will provide scouting reports, statistics, profiles and video of the players for recruiters to have easy access. The PBR website (prepbaseballreport.com) says that they are a go to source for amateur baseball and independent scouting and are currently active in 41 states across the US as well as in Canada (British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario) since it’s creation in 2005.
You can listen to the Alberta Dugout Stories interview on their podcast where they talk to PBR’s new scouting director and current Prairie Baseball Academy head coach Todd Hubka. They discuss the transition from where PBR was, to the changes that are happening for the program starting this season and moving forward. Former Rosalind Athletics infielder and Camrose Axemen and Bawlf’s own Chance Wheatley is part of the Southern Alberta scouting team for PBR.
PBR Alberta will have an impressive collection of scouts in the province as along with Wheatley are Jordan Blundell (Edmonton Prospects), Taylor Burns (Absolute Human Performance), Shane Dawson Jr (Baseball Canada/Toronto Blue Jays), Aqil Samuel (Sylvan Lake Gulls), Riley Barrett (The Red Deer Dome), Cam Williams (University of Calgary Dinos), Sam Marino (Babe Ruth Baseball Calgary) and Ryan McDonald (Prairie Baseball Academy).
On August 20 PBR hosted an event, the 2020 Alberta Summer Open ID at Spitz Stadium in Lethbridge. Designed to maximize the exposure of players for recruiters the event provide player performance stats and video of the players as part of the scouting service. You will see a handful of baseball players from the Edmonton area who are in the 2020-2023 graduating classes on the roster. This includes Camrose’s Gavin Galenza whose family is no stranger to local softball/baseball fans. The young right-hander who is set to graduate in 2022 was among only three pitchers to reach 86 mph with their fastball. Behind the plate Galenza provided the fastest pop time for catchers with 1.97 seconds and was tied for first with a 77 mph catcher velocity. The Camrose native is currently attending the St Joseph Baseball Academy in Red Deer.
Highlighting these athletes through events like PBR and scouting services is another step towards maximizing opportunities for young talented baseball players in the area. The province of Alberta will hopefully see more and more high calibre players get noticed and move on to bigger and better opportunities in their baseball careers.
