Town Team Upset In Regions, Eliminated At Belle Plaine 5-1
Posted August 5, 2012
Just as the case was in game one, St. Peter jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Ty Kaus hit a one-out single, CJ Siewert sacrificed him over to second on a bunt and Jesse Munsterman smashed an RBI-triple to the right-center field gap for the early lead.
But that would be it for the Saints as Belle Plaine took the lead in the bottom half. Three consecutive singles loaded the bases and a sacrifice fly to center tied the game at one apiece. The Tigers scored what proved to be the game-winner in the next at-bat with an RBI groundout.
Belle Plaine added two more in the fourth on three hits and another in the fifth on three more hits for its five-run total. Saints starter Jesse Anderson went five innings, allowing all five earned runs on 11 hits. He struck out two and walked none, ending his season with a 6-3 record.
St. Peter threatened in the sixth with runners on second and third and one out, but consecutive looking-strikeouts ended the rally. The bottom third of the order went 0-for-10 with 10 strikeouts (six looking).
The Saints seemingly couldn’t get the big hit when it was needed and were missing their best hitter in Shea Roehrkasse during the two-game sweep. The town team would like to send out a Happy 100th Birthday to his grandmother, though.
In relief for Anderson, Jeremy Braun tossed the sixth and seventh, allowing two hits with one strikeout. Kaus pitched a 1-2-3 eighth inning with a K.
Munsterman led the Saints at the plate, going 2-for-4 with an RBI-triple. Jeff Menk (1-1, BB, HBP), Kaus (1-5, R) and Siewert (1-4, SAC) had the remaining hits.
St. Peter ends its season as three-time RVL West champs, reaching Region 6C play for the third-straight season as well. The Saints will keep their goal of reaching the State tournament next season, as all of their starters remain in the fold for the foreseeable future.
