The St. Peter amateurs continued their hot streak at the plate with 15 hits Sunday afternoon in Le Sueur en route to a 10-2 victory over the Braves in the first River Valley League matchup of the season.
Along with the lively bats, the pitching staff held Le Sueur to one earned run and four hits. Ty Kaus earned the victory after six innings of work. He allowed two runs (one earned) on four hits with seven strikeouts, a walk and two hit-batsmen. Jeremy Braun closed out the final three innings without surrendering a hit and four Ks.
The Saints started early with two runs in the first inning and never looked back. They built a 3-0 lead in the second before Le Sueur scored a run in the bottom half. Each team tacked on a run in the third, but St. Peter broke the game open in the sixth with three runs for a 7-2 advantage.
The local nine added three insurance runs in the ninth for good measure before Braun struck out the side to finish the game.
Jeff Menk provided a perfect day at the plate in the eight hole, going 4-for-4 with a double, two runs, RBI and a walk. Kaus (3-5, 2 R, 2 SB, RBI) and Jesse Munsterman (3-6, R, RBI, SB) each had three hits. The Saints reached base 25 times in 49 plate appearances.
The Saints (2-2 overall, 1-0 RVL) have a string of three consecutive games this week. On Wednesday, they travel to Waterville, Thursday at Arlington and Friday they host Fairfax.
