Town team routes Henderson 10-0 in opening round of High Life Invite

Now in its third consecutive year competing at Arlington and Gaylord’s High Life Invite, the St. Peter town team has made accustom of winning its first round matchup. On Thursday, the Saints made quick work of Henderson with a convincing 10-0 victory in five innings, via the 10-run rule (all tourney games are seven innings), at Arlington’s ballpark. The win pits the Saints against the winner of Savage vs. Mound on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in Arlington.
St. Peter started its scoring route in the opening frame. Ty Kaus walked, stole second and scored on single by Jesse Munsterman. The Saints added two in the second on two hits and two walks. Jordan Wilmes doubled, CJ Siewert walked and Seth Wenner followed with an RBI hit. Munsterman then reached on an error, scoring Siewert for a 3-0 lead.
The local amateurs put the game out of reach with a five-run fourth inning. Siewert started the frame with an infield single, Seth Wenner walked and Kaus singled, scoring Siewert. Ben Mikelson then hit a pinch hit RBI and Munsterman ensued with another RBI single. Mike Enz knocked in a run and Jordan Wilmes ensued with an RBI single for the fifth run of the frame.
In the fifth, Seth Wenner walked, Kaus singled while the throw to first went into the dugout, allowing the runners to advance into scoring position. Billy Hanson knocked in Wenner with a single and Munsterman hit the “game-winner” with a single to plate Kaus, enforcing the 10-run rule.
Kaus went the short distance with a five-inning shutout. He tallied 11 Ks and gave up only three hits and two walks in 20 plate appearances.
Munsterman paced the club at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a run, three RBIs and a stolen base. Kaus helped his own cause with a 2-for-2 performance, including two walks, three runs, two steals and an RBI. Jordan Wilmes also had multiple hits, going 2-for-3 with a double, run and two RBIs.
