In a matchup of the River Valley League’s top teams in the Central and West divisions, the Jordan Brewers came out on top with a 3-2 win over St. Peter Tuesday night at Veterans Field.
The Saints held a 2-1 lead after seven innings, but the Brewers added a run in the eighth and another in the ninth to escape with a victory.
St. Peter struck first in the second inning after leadoff walks to Billy Hanson and Ryan Wenner put runners on first and second. CJ Siewert followed with a bunt single to load the bases and Jeff Menk then hit a chopper to second base to score Hanson. But the Brewers got out of the jam and limited the damage to just one run.
Jordan immediately responded with a run in the third inning with a two-out rally. A double followed by an RBI single tied the game at 1-1.
St. Peter regained the lead in the fifth inning after Tyler Stoffel reached second base on a throwing error and was driven home by a single off the bat of Jayme Munsterman.
Starting pitcher Matt Lewis exited the game after the seventh. Lewis allowed one earned run on four hits with five strikeouts and two walks.
Ty Kaus entered the game in the eighth and the Brewers took advantage of a fielding error, followed by a stolen base and a single to tie the game.
Jordan then took the lead in the ninth after a walk, sacrifice bunt and an RBI single.
The Saints put a runner on second base in the bottom of the ninth after a fielding error, but were unable to plate the tying run and the Brewers snuck away with the one-run win.
Siewert led the Saints at the plate, going 2-for-2. Sam Wenner (1-4) and Munsterman (1-4) had the only other hits for St. Peter.
The local nine falls to 5-3 overall and 4-1 in the RVL. Next up is a home game Wednesday night against the Mankato Twins.
