Saints Hand Gaylord First RVL Loss

ST. PETER, Minn. - The rain held off long enough Sunday at Veterans Field for the St. Peter town team to hand Gaylord its first River Valley League loss of the season in a 3-1 decision. The Saints scored single runs in the first three innings, which gave starting pitcher Jesse Anderson enough cushion as he tossed his third complete game victory of the season.
St. Peter scored a run in the opening frame as Ryan Kapsner doubled and crossed home on a single by Shea Roehrkasse. Gaylord tied the score in the second with a solo home run, but Anderson went on to throw seven-straight scoreless frames as his defense committed zero errors.
The local nine plated what proved to be the game-winning run in the second as CJ Siewert singled, Billy Hanson was beaned, and Andy Regner walked to load the bases for Ty Kaus, who knocked in Siewert with a grounder to second. The Saints added one more run in the third. Jovan Rodriguez singled and later scored on a groundout by Austin Pinke.
Anderson finished the game with 11 hits allowed, two strikeouts, and one walk. Rodriguez (2-4, R) and Roehrkasse (2-3, BB, RBI) led the team at the plate.
St. Peter (4-7, 3-3 RVL) travels to Belle Plaine for a 7:30 p.m. league game Friday.
