ST. PETER, Minn. - Two days after his 40th birthday, Jesse Anderson tossed a 14-inning complete game as the St. Peter town team defeated Belle Plaine 4-3 in a key RVL victory Friday night at Veterans Field. Anderson limited the Tigers to just four hits in 42 plate appearances. St. Peter extends its winning streak to seven games, improving to 11-8 overall and 9-4 in the RVL with the league’s No. 2 seed on the line Sunday at Gaylord (9-4 RVL).
The Saints took a 1-0 lead in the second as Austin Pinke scored on a wild pitch. In the third inning, the local nine gained a 3-0 advantage after two bases-loaded walks. CJ Siewert and Billy Hanson scored the runs on free passes to Ty Kaus and Ryan Kapsner.
Belle Plaine ended the shutout in the fifth frame with a pair of runs after two hit-batsmen, an error, and a single. After two scoreless innings, the Tigers tied the score in the eighth on three-straight singles. But that would be it for the visitors as Anderson allowed only two base runners in the final six innings, five of which ended three-up, three-down.
After leaving a base-runner in scoring position in the 10th through 13th innings, the Saints finally plated the winning run in the 14th as Siewert reached on an error, went to second on a sacrifice by Hanson, and then scored on an infield single by Andy Regner followed by a throwing error.
Siewert led the team at the plate, going 3-for-6 with a walk and two runs. Hanson had three sacrifices, two walks, a hit-by-pitch, and a run. The team collected eight hits and drew 11 walks against four different pitchers.
