May Recap
Posted May 31, 2018
Baseball season in the SCBL is now in full swing. The league reps decided to start a few days earlier this season which has resulted in many teams getting close to 5 games in before June. This was in order to hopefully have playoffs wrapped up before Provincials in Neepawa August 10-12. As for the baseball on the field. As of May 31st; Portage and Minnedosa lead the standings with 3-1 records. There is a log jam in the middle of the standings with many teams having 2 wins and 2-3 losses. The pennant chase this year seems like it may be a wild one to secure 1st place and a birth in Provincials. Unfortunately some teams are struggling to find pitching. Three of the leagues best pitchers; Daylon Creasy of Carberry, Garrett Rempel last years MVP of Neepawa and Jason Kirkland Pitcher of the Year 2 of the last 3 seasons from Portage are currently dealing with arm issues. Former MVP Zac Yandeau has gotten off to a good start after a year away from the SCBL. He threw a 2 hit gem with 11 K's against Carberry on May 28th. Dustin Donald of the Padres has stepped up in place of Jason Kirkland. He threw an astonishing 21 innings in 3 days including both games of a doubleheader in Dauphin. In all those games he picked up the win. We look ahead to the busiest baseball month in June.
