Playoffs Set

Posted August 9, 2020

With the SWBL regular season wrapping up Sunday night, all eyes will turn to the playoffs that kick off on Tuesday, August 11th.  Here are the final standings for the six post-season bound squads:

1. Oak River Dodgers (11-0)

2. Rivers Comets (8-3)

3. Hamiota Red Sox (8-3)

4. Boissevain Centennials (7-4)

5. Virden Oilers (6-5)

6. Reston Rockets (6-5)

The Rivers Comets earn the 2nd seed, and a bye to the final tournament, due to their victory over the Hamiota Red Sox in the regular season.  Virden and Reston split their season series 1-1, but Virden gets the higher seed due to run differential in those match-ups.

As stated above, Rivers, along with Oak River, have both earned byes to the league tournament on the weekend (hosted in Oak River).  Joining them will be the two victorious teams in Tuesday's play-in games.

PLAY-IN GAME 1:  Reston @ Hamiota

Hamiota won the lone meeting this season, 6-4 on July 10th.  Brody Robinson paced the Red Sox in that game going 2-for-2 with an RBI while surrendering just 1 earned run over 4 innings pitched.

PLAY-IN GAME 2:  Virden @ Boissevain

These two teams will have an immediate rematch of their season finale on Sunday.  Boissevain won that game 11-6 on the back of Jay Pringle who went 2-for-3 with a pair of doubles, 3 RBI, and surrendered just 1 unearned run over 1 1/3 innings pitched.

Stay tuned to the news feed for the August 15th-16th tournament schedule after Tuesday's games.
