The History of Trapper Baseball

Since the fall of 1970 when Fort Vancouver moved to its current location on East 18th Street, the Trapper baseball program has experienced great success on the diamond.  As one of only two schools to have won a large classification state championship in baseball from Southwest Washington (Skyview 2013), the Trapper program has earned a great reputation for its excellence on the field.  In all, Fort Vancouver has made five appearances at the state tournament with fifth (1973) and fourth (1975) place finishes to go along with the state title in 1990.  On top of its success at State, the Trappers have won six league titles and four district championsips- highlighted by an undefeated league championship in 1996.

Fort Vancouver has seen many individuals go on to have success playing baseball after their time at Fort.  In total, eight Trapper athletes have been selected in the Major League Baseball Draft.  Outfielder Brian Hunter was the highest draft pick in the program's history, as he was selected in the second round of the 1989 MLB Draft by the Houston Astros.  In all, Hunter spent all or part of 10 seasons in "The Show" with six different teams.  In 1997, while a member of the Detroit Tigers, Hunter led the Majors in stolen bases with 74.  Hunter accomplished this feat again in 1999 while a member of the Seattle Mariners when he stole 44 bags.  The most recent Trapper to be selected in the MLB draft came in 2013, when former Trapper and Pacific Lutheran University pitcher Max Beatty was selected by the San Diego Padres.
