Mistakes Prove Costly; Expos Drop Exhibition to Delta on a Cold, Wet Afternoon

The "young" Expos team (6 first-years and no returning Bantam AAA players) walked away from Sunday's exhibition game vs. the Delta Tigers with a loss but a sense of realization of what it's going to take to beat veteran teams like the Delta Tigers this year. The Expos for the second straight day outhit their opponent but unlike yesterday (take no credit away from the Tigers) the Expos gave away runs.

Offensively, the Expos had many opportunities but failed to cash in with runners in scoring position throughout the game; baserunning was subpar as miscues on tag-ups cost Vancouver at least a couple runs. In regards to defence, a strong Delta team managed by 2015's 15U Coach of the Year, Cam Frick not only ran all over the Expos but took advantage of a couple key mistakes (catcher's interference and steal of home by arguably the league's fastest and smartest baserunner, Sasaki) which led to runs and consequently a narrow one run victory for the Tigers.

Vancouver kept their head up high after the game, but now understand what it's going to take to win in this league and how they stack up against tough competition. The Vancouver Minor Expos welcome back Horino from his holiday trip to Japan (still without Yamamoto and Asst. Coach, Tomio Fukumura until Saturday), together the 'Bos will practice quite a bit this week (pending weather) and will see a new opponent on Good Friday as they make a trip out to Aldergrove.
