Expos Come Out Flat in Back End of DH; Community Holds Minor to 2 Hits and Plays Flawless Defense en route to a 9-4 Win

After a quick 2 hour first game of the double-header (DH) which saw the Vancouver Minor Expos victorious over the Vancouver Community Mounties of a score of 3-0, both teams after a half hour break were back at it and it was one team that came ready for the back end of the double-header. Unfortunately, it wasn't your hometown Expos.

In game 2, the Mounties were eager to prove that game 1 was not a good representation of their team and they did exactly that. Ellis got the nod for the 'Bos and did not have his best stuff today as he struggled to work down in the zone. Perry got things started for VCB with a leadoff opposite field double as the Mounties plated two runs to kick off the game. The Expos got a run back in the bottom half of the inning.

Defensive mistakes led to 1 run and 2 runs for the Mounties in the 3rd and 5th innings respectively to push the lead to four. In the 5th inning, Vancouver Minor started to make a push as quality at-bats starting to string together in succession and before you know it the Expos had the bases loaded (tying run 80" away) with 2 outs, unfortunately the Mounties escaped the jam up one run.

Jump all the way to the 7th, where the Mounties still held a narrow one run lead until a 2 out error by second baseman, Domingo opened the floodgates. VCB took full advantage of the 2-out error and crossed home 4 times to crush any dreams the Expos had at a comeback. The Van Minor squad needed a shutdown 7th and go to their last at-bats down one run with their 3-4-5 hitters set to bat, unfortunately it wasn't meant to be.

The Expos this game hit some scorching shots but the Mounties defense was impeccable in this one robbing numerous quality batted balls and many hard hit balls finding players just in the right spot at the right time.

Vancouver Minor didn't play awful in the back end of the double header, but definitely looked weaker in every category compared to their previous game.

Your Double Header G.B.U:

Good: The Expos played extremely well in game 1 with Hutchings, Inomata and Horino combining to shutdown the Mounties bats, Community did not have a hit out of the infield. Offensively, Vancouver Minor came out swinging in game 1; Horino lead the charge on the offense today reaching base 5/7 PA (2 ROE and 3 1B). Baserunning was also a success today going 12/13 (92.3%) on steal attempts (8/8 against top-tier catcher, Black of VCB)

Bad: The back end of the double header was sloppy, pitching, hitting and fielding all subpar. Definitely a step down from the 'Bos we saw in game 1.

Ugly: A 2 out error in the top of the 7th opened the floodgates for the Mounties as they scored 4 runs with 2 outs after the error to make a one run lead a five run lead, ending any hope of a comeback.

The boys are off Monday, practice Tuesday through Thursday, off Friday and see their season get underway on Saturday with a DH @ Chilliwack then Sunday DH vs. Burnaby.
