6 Run 6th Propels Expos over Burnaby 7-2 in Exhibition

This contest saw 5 innings of a pitcher's duel between Grant of Burnaby and Howse/Horino of Vancouver, as all three pitchers combined to let up 3 hits on the day. The Expos broke the game open in the 6th as they put up a 6 spot off Burnaby's Hoegler (all with 2 outs) leading them to a 7-2 victory over the Braves.

EXPOS 7 Burnaby 2

Howse and Grant both got the starts for their respective clubs in this contest, the two flamethrowers went toe to toe and were both very effective in their outings. Howse worked 3 scoreless innings, not allowing a hit while striking out 4 all in 29 pitches. Vancouver managed to scratch across a run in the 2nd off Grant, Howse led the inning off with a hit by pitch, advanced to 2nd on an errant pickoff throw, moved to 3rd thanks to an Inomata 4-3 groundout and was plated by Baybay's deep LF sac fly. Expos 1 Burnaby 0 after 2.

Horino picked up where Howse left off as he was equally as effective going 2 innings of relief striking out 3, walking 2 and not allowing a run. Horino worked out of a jam in the 4th as he K'd Kochi for the 3rd out, stranding Van Snellenberg (tying run) at 3rd.

The 6th inning saw Vancouver explode for 6 runs, all with 2 outs. Symons (AA) drew a walk off new relief pitcher Hoegler to lead off the inning, Symons and Yamamoto would come around to score on the second of two Domingo hits on the day. Later in the inning, Baybay picked up his 2nd and 3rd RBIs of the game on a big 2 RBI single, Suarez would follow that up with an RBI single of his own. Expos 7 Burnaby 0 after 6.

Yamamoto, despite giving up a 2 run double to Burnaby's Tortolano (AA) settled down to retire Yaremko to end the ball game. Other than 1 error, defence for Vancouver was excellent, Inomata and Betonio were standouts in the field. Thanks for the 3 AA players (Symons, Pinoni and Fukuoka) for taking part in the exhibition game, Symons and Fukuoka will be joining the AAA Expos down south this weekend.

The Expos are now off the Puyallup, WA this weekend for a tournament as they look to make it 2/2 in first place finishes down south this year. The action gets kicked off Saturday at 3pm vs. TC Saints.
