Lockhart Youth Sports Philosophy

Welcome to the Lockhart Youth Basketball League. We are looking forward to an exciting and enjoyable season and are glad that you can be part of it. The purpose of youth sports is to provide students with an opportunity to learn skills and have fun. Participation is considered to be of primary. While all sports are competitive by nature, competition is not highly stressed in this league. Although winning is the purpose in playing any game — it is not only the purpose. Learning sportsmanship when winning and losing, teamwork, skill development, how to enjoy the game, and developing a life-long interest in physical activity is also important. In an effort to keep our priorities in order, and to avoid putting undue pressure on players and coaches to develop and “win at all costs” attitude, the youth league does not keep league standings nor award trophies or other special championship awards.

Promote good sportsmanship and teamwork
Develop a permanent leisure time interest in sports

Encourage greater participation of individuals in the use of their schools

Encourage your players to learn from their mistakes
