Updated 1:30 a.m. Thursday, October 29, 2009.
We had our parent meeting tonight & anything new has been added in red.
Coach Steve had a personal issue come up he has to deal with & so is unavailable to us at the moment, please do not contact him at this time.
Health:
A parent has suggested to me that considering the H1N1 issue the players should each bring their own water bottle & label it with their name & jersey # to discourage sharing.
If anyone would like to be responsible for team water bottles please let me know, otherwise I think we'll leave it up to the individual players.
No one present at the meeting did, but if anyone who wasn't there would like to please let me know. We did decide to purchase a few team water bottles as extras in case someone forgets, hopefully this will not happen often. We also decided to purchase a first aid kit at Costco (I think it's about $60) from team funds as the club does not supply one.
I also plan to buy a bottle of hand sanitizer for the team's use & replace it as necessary as encouraged in the H1N1 bulletin. If there are no objections, I'll take this out of 50/50 money, or if we don't do 50/50 this year out of team money.
I donated the first one & George said he'll donate more as needed so this won't be an expense for the team.
Games & Practices:
We will set guidelines for how early players are expected to be at the arena before a game or practice & who to notify of an absence.
Players should be at practices early enough to be on the ice on time with the rest of the team, a guideline is about 15-20 minutes but if you dress quickly maybe less.
Players should be at games 40-45 minutes before the scheduled start of a game.
If unable to attend a game or practice, please contact Cindy by phone call or text message @ 223-4388 or e-mail @ cindymhoulahan@yahoo.ca.
Website:
This season we will communicate primarily through the website.
The time & date last updated will be in black at the top of the home page.
New items will be in red at the top of the home page.
Next ice times will be in blue.
Financial information will be in green.
If you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions about the website please let me know.
I'd like to display the roster with the players' first & last names & jersey #, so if anyone has an objection to this please let me know by Wednesday.
So far I have received no objections so I will display the roster as of tonight.
Also, for $20 for the season we can include stats on the website to track points & penalty minutes.
Parents at the meeting all thought this was fine & to ask the players, so I'll ask them at the next practice & confirm.
Practice:
We will have regular practice ice at Varsity View Sportsplex & will not be looking for practice ice elsewhere.
Once the league schedule is out, our Ice Convenor works feverishly to get practice schedules out for all the VV teams.
As soon as it's available, I'll put it on the website.
Tournaments:
There are limited options at Midget, if we do a tournament Mr. Morgan has looked into the Brandon tournament, we did it last year & it was fun, also a good time to go away as it's the end of February, right before playoffs.
I'll confirm that we have coaches available for that time also.
Anyone who would like to bring information about another tournament to the meeting or e-mail it to me so I can present it for consideration, please do so.
Basically we need to decide tomorrow as the tournaments fill up quickly, please consider & discuss with your family: do we enter a tournament or not, & if yes, when should we go & how far away are people willing to travel.
Anyone with any comments, questions, or suggestions about tournaments please e-mail me by Wednesday.
We went over several possibilities & ended up deciding to try to enter the Brandon tournament, but we need to know firm numbers to know if it will work. No one wanted to travel much farther than that & no one was interested in a January tournament because of exams. The dates are February 18-21, last year we had a game scheduled at 4:00 pm-ish on the Thursday so the players missed 2 days of school. We didn't end up playing in the finals Sunday but we stayed Saturday night anyway so it was 3 nights in a hotel. The team will be paying for coaches' rooms (2). I'm going to send everyone an e-mail & then Nelson is going to reply all on that list with an e-mail about availability & more details about rooms & stuff. Then we need a very quick response, sometime tomorrow for sure, as if we do decide to go in we need to confirm quickly.
Finances:
Sharron Smith has agreed to be our treasurer again, thanks Sharron.
Last season we collected $400 in team fees, we'll collect the same amount this season.
This money will pay for: tournament entry fee if we do the tournament, coaches' rooms for the tournament, practice ice @ VVSP (billed twice, once in December & once in January), first aid kit, stats on the website if the players want, captains' letters, extra water bottles, stickers for the game sheets, & possibly other team expenses, which will all be detailed on our financial statement.
We have a bank account from our team last year called VV Midget A1 with $0.11 in it that I'd like to use again, if no one has any objections. Sharron & I both have access to that account.
It's at the Bank of Montreal in Charleswood Center, they have a no-fee community account that has no monthly fees or deposit fees (hence the name) & gives us 100 free cheques. We used 29 cheques last season so we have lots left.
I'd like a cheque from each family for $200 by November 01st & another $200 by December 15, please.
Anyone wishing to pay in full of course we're always happy to take your money early, and anyone who wishes to make alternate installment arrangements please let me know.
Anyone with any comments, questions, or suggestions about finances please e-mail me by Wednesday.
I'd like to discuss whether or not we will be selling 50/50 at home games.
There was some discussion around this, we'll see what our attendance is like, no one wants to take it over so if we do we'll take turns, about half the people at the meeting didn't want to bother at all & if there aren't many people at the games it's not worth the time. So no firm decision yet.
Namebars, Socks, Jerseys:
I've taken the jerseys in to get namebars sewn on, for those who need new namebars made up & sewn on they are $6.50 each & for those who provided them & need them sewn on they are $1.50 each.
The players will each receive 2 pair of socks at the first game, one blue & one white, I'm not sure if the price has changed from last year but they were $12 per pair I think.
If you wish to combine payment of team fees with payment for namebars & socks that's fine, I'll have a list by the weekend of who owes what & I'll let you know.
If there's anyone who'd like to take a set of jerseys for the season or for half the season, please let me know. They need to be washed after each game.
