****REFEREE MEETING for U08/U10 Vinton Soccer Games****   Will be held in late August at Vinyard Shelter.  Plan on the meeting lasting 1 hour.

We will be scheduling games on this date, so bring your calendar of work/school/other conflicts to this meeting.  Prior to the meeting, review the U08/U10 game schedules to see what games you are (or aren't) available to work!

If you are interested in refereeing for Fall 2013 U08/U10 soccer, please email Julie Buxton at julbuxton@verizon.net or call 977-4075 for more information.  Knowledge of the game is required and prior playing experience and/or passing of referee class is preferred.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Referees....please make sure to bring stopwatch and whistle to each game, arrive at least 10 minutes before game start time.  Also, remember to have the coaches sign the referee pay sheet BEFORE each game, during the introduction and before the kickoff.  Also, ask to see the coaches "badge" during this timeframe.  All coaches should either wear or have in their posession these credentials.

You are the "official" timekeeper.....four (8) minute quarters for U08 and U10.

Be firm in your calls (so everyone can hear them) and be sure to use hand gestures when pointing to the direction of play, so everyone can see whose ball it is.  We want you to verbally assist players, if necessary, in setting up corner-kicks, goals kicks, etc., to aid in player development.

***Protect the Goalies as necessary....we recommend slightly blowing your whistle (and perhaps saying "Goalie") when you feel the goalie has adequately secured the ball, to avoid opposing team players from accidentally running into the goalie***

Please make sure to check all players during warmup to verify appropriate shoes (i.e. non-metal cleates), shinguards and NO jewelry, such as necklaces, watches, wristbands, large earrings with hoops (small earrings are ok).  Sports eyeglasses are acceptable to wear.  Player jerseys should be tucked in during the course of the game.  Also, verify goals are properly secured before allowing any games to be held.

Lightning Policy - If thunder is heard, be aware and keep a look out for lightning. If lightning is seen, all players and spectators shall be moved to a sheltered area or to their cars. Wait at least 20 minutes from the last streak of lightning to resume play or practice.

Heat Policy - Actual Temperature or Heat Index 100 or above - All games cancelled

Player safety is very important to the Vinton Booster Club!
